Reflections

My first team consisted of six people from different industries, geographies, age groups, and backgrounds. Our professional experiences ranged from 5-15+ years in CPG, law, the U.S. Navy, emerging markets, engineering, and recruiting. The diversity of talent and experiences helped us learn about different industries, leverage our expertise in the coursework, and share advice on challenging work situations. I owe a significant part of my transformative experience in this program to my team and peers in the cohort who continuously challenged, supported, and provided feedback to help me reach my goals and be a better leader.

Before Fuqua

I have worked at Altria for five years in various roles including sales, project management, team management, and big data analytics on the West Coast.

After Fuqua

My goal is to continue working at a Fortune 500 corporation and to develop my leadership capabilities as a general manager. This program has provided the business foundations, a network of leaders to seek different perspectives from and time to reflect and grow my leadership capabilities to influence different stakeholders.

Advice

Build in time to think and reflect. Think about your goals and what you want to achieve academically, professionally, and personally over the course of the program. After honest reflection, make sure that your actions contribute to your goals. Time goes by so quickly and you need to be intentional, purposeful, and reflective to take full advantage of the program and its resources. This experience is what you make of it and how much effort and thought you put into it.
