Daytime MBA Class of 2022 Student Jenna Weinberg
“Some of my most meaningful roles at Fuqua have been in positions of allyship and helping define what allyship looks like at Fuqua. We still have a long way to go, both at Fuqua and as a society. Yet, the courageous conversations I have often with classmates and staff leave me filled with optimism.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

Coming from a social impact background, I was anxious to find a business school where students were open to thinking critically about the role of the private sector in society. I knew that the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) would be an ideal home for me to engage with professionals and peers alike around topics related to sustainability, impact investing, and beyond. On top of that, I was impressed with Fuqua's non-competitive, team-based culture. My classmates have gone above and beyond to support me in recruiting, class, and outside of school as well.

5 Tips for Maximizing Your Time at Fuqua

  1. Participate in at least one case competition. It is one of the best ways to learn and grow outside the classroom.
  2. See your time at Fuqua as an opportunity to experiment with who you want to be as a leader. Try out new styles and take on roles you never considered.
  3. Take care of your mental health. The core courses plus recruiting can be a lot. Be open with sharing the ups and downs with your classmates and find ways to take care of one another.
  4. Seek out relationships with classmates who come from different backgrounds than you do. Your time at Fuqua is a unique opportunity to learn about people from all across the globe and see the world through their eyes. It’s easy to gravitate towards those who are most similar to us. Resist this urge!
  5. Check out the events put on by the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE). Whether you plan to pursue a career with a social impact lens or not, CASE has speakers and programs relevant to helping anyone think more deeply about how to have a more meaningful and impactful career.

My Life Before Fuqua

I was vice president of a boutique social impact consulting firm. In this role, I built unlikely partnerships between tech and labor, made a fiduciary case for considering diversity in asset management, and promoted the voices of young elected officials with bold ideas sourced from the grassroots.

My Life After Fuqua

I plan to pursue a career in impact investing. In particular, I hope to work with families and foundations to invest their capital in line with their values.

Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE)

The CASE speaker series has been a major influence on my Fuqua experience by helping me build invaluable connections to leaders in impact investing.

What I Love About Durham

I was grateful to be able to safely hang out with classmates outside year-round thanks to Durham's great weather and access to the outdoors. From playing tennis to hiking on local trails to gathering around a fire pit for drinks and s’mores, there is a long list of incredible outdoor activities to do at any time of year.
