“The day I first met my teammates, I was a little skeptical about how it was going to work—we were all just so different. But as we started to do our assignments together, we started to bond over our differences and find commonalities - for example, we all like to take breaks during our team assignments to play Pictionary.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

I was really attracted to Fuqua’s sense of unity and the drive to help others grow as you grow. I grew up with a similar philosophy in my schooling and wanted to be a part of that culture. I was also drawn to Fuqua’s emphasis on diversity and knew it would be a place where I could truly immerse myself in a global experience while challenging myself academically and professionally.

During Fuqua

I am extremely passionate about Fuqua’s core ideology of teamwork. People often synonymize the business world with a rat race, but Fuqua teaches us otherwise. The emphasis on leading with compassion and helping others grow as you do are lessons that have helped me grow as a leader. My Fuqua experience has proven, through every single class, case, and experience, that success is sweeter when you have people to share it with.

After Fuqua

After graduation, I want to go into marketing. I’ve always loved trying to understand what motivates people’s behavior and how advertising and marketing can capitalize on people’s interests.

5 Random Things About Fuqua (and Duke) That Charmed Me

  1. Even though you study in the business school, it’s easy to get involved in activities across multiple disciplines. Did you know that you can try printing something using one of the free 3D printers on campus?
  2. Triangle Training, the Chapel Climb, and Campout—while education is important, there are always ample opportunities to have fun. Duke and Fuqua are making sure we leave with plenty of memories!
  3. Duke’s library system allows book lovers like me to gain access to books across all genres with just one click. You just need to request a particular title and it’ll show up at the Ford Library for you to pick up!
  4. If it’s after 5 p.m. and the Duke transit buses aren’t running, you can request a Duke van to pick you up. After all, safety first!
  5. Everyone you meet at Fuqua radiates the desire to help you. The program staff is always coming up with new ways to help their students, be it identifying potential mentors for individual students to organizing case contests to help us sharpen our skills.
