Why I Chose Fuqua

The two main reasons I chose to attend Fuqua are its diverse community and its focus on team-based learning. Almost half of our class are international students from all over the world, giving me the opportunity to learn about different cultures and gain friends all around the world. I also appreciated Fuqua’s focus on teamwork, which helps effective learning and teaches students how to work well with others, which is essential for the workplace. Having my team for support has also helped me to adjust well to a new environment in a new country with a new culture.

Before Fuqua

Before coming to the MMS program, I worked at a cloud computing startup company in South Korea for less than a year. While writing proposals and brochures for software companies, I wanted to learn more about business processes and the necessary knowledge and skills for my work. I knew that Fuqua could equip me with all the foundations and skills I’d need in business.

After Fuqua

I plan to get a job within management or strategy consulting either in Seoul or New York. At Fuqua I took an elective course, Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum, which gave me the opportunity to be a part of a consulting team, made up of Fuqua students, that worked with a local company in Durham under Professor Tony O'Driscoll's guidance.

What I Love About Durham

Durham is a very peaceful city with beautiful weather, good restaurants, and opportunities to see live music. Since summer is my favorite season, Durham is perfect for me—when I arrived, the sun was setting close to 9:30 p.m., which is even later than Korea’s summer sunset time. My friends and I like to go to eat out on weekends, especially for Sunday brunch, and all the great meals we’ve had have been a great joy for us. I’ve also taken opportunities to enjoy good music—I bought a concert ticket to see an independent singer, and I plan to see the musical Hamilton at Durham Performing Arts Center in downtown.
