Lucas Chaya del Pino
"In my career before business school I made decisions every day, but a great percentage were made instinctively. At Fuqua, I’ve learned the importance of using data and having quantitative analysis to inform decisions.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

It was love at first sight. My student admissions ambassador was so helpful and friendly and introduced me to students from my country who were also very interested in telling me everything about Fuqua. Even after my visit, I often remained in touch with all the people I met at the school, so I like to say that I experienced Team Fuqua even before applying and that’s why I chose it.

The Research Triangle Area is a hotspot in the East Coast for business career opportunities, and I valued Fuqua’s wide range of learning opportunities related to entrepreneurship—mainly the Program for Entrepreneurs where you learn hands-on creating and developing new ventures.

5 Random Things About Me

  1. Married to Florencia. We are used to spending all day together since we worked together in our startup.
  2. I was a high school exchange student in Douglas, Wyoming, USA for one year.
  3. Former professional rally car racing driver in Argentina.
  4. My honeymoon was a road trip driving from New York to San Francisco.
  5. I used to co-own two local TV shows with a friend: one about sports and one about politics.

My Life Before Fuqua

I opened a store as a franchisee of Bonafide, Argentina’s most important coffee chain. This led to opening five other stores and then wholesaling for Bonafide in my province. Later I created my own brand, Goldcafe, with a complete line of coffee-related products for gastronomy wholesaling, and four franchise stores.

My Life After Fuqua

In the short term I would love to experience joining a big company in a General Management or Marketing role, and long term I intend to keep doing entrepreneurship but with a global scope and impact.

What I Love About Durham

What I love is the mix between a small town life and a very dynamic urban lifestyle. Durham has great restaurants and bars, many recreational activities to do, but at the same time, the tranquility of a relaxed lifestyle and the outdoor life is just amazing.

Moreover, Durham is close to Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, and is part of the Research Triangle area which has many career opportunities in many different sectors.
