MQM: Business Analytics
My Program Track:
Business Administration / Economics, 2015
Why I Chose Fuqua
While I was doing my research on data analytics programs, I found Fuqua. The opportunities Fuqua could provide and the doors it could open were endless. Hence the decision ended up being a no-brainer for me, and I can honestly say it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life!
My interest in data and data analytics stemmed from my previous experience working in digital marketing at Red Ventures. There I was exposed to working with SQL and making truly data-driven decisions. This inspired me to pursue a degree in data analytics.
Apart from being with some of the smartest people I’ve ever met, being on my MQM team has exposed me not just to diversity in geography or academics but diversity in thinking as well. This experience has taught me the importance of diversity in teams and the role it plays in both the success of the team and the larger organization.
My MQM Track
I am currently in the marketing track, where I also serve as the track chair. As a track chair, my role is to plan, organize, promote and communicate with all students to create an inclusive and cohesive community as well as serve as a student liaison to the faculty. It has been a lot of work but I have always loved challenges and this is no different. I joined the marketing track to continue to learn the role data plays specifically in digital marketing. I am hoping to gain the technical expertise to analyze data and make robust data-driven decisions as well as gain the communication skills to translate these analyses into meaningful decisions.
My Favorite Fuqua Professor
This is a tie between Jeremy Petranka and Mark Brown. Professor Petranka has always been very engaging and has the ability to make something as tough—and sometimes boring—as economics extremely interesting. He also goes the extra mile, whether it’s with videos or extra sessions to make sure EVERYONE understands the material.
Professor Brown was my Business Communications Professor. I thought I was great at public speaking until I took his class. He is tough as nails and really pushes you and challenges you to be the best you can be, and I can confidently say I am better for it today. The things I’ve learned in his class will be useful for a lifetime.
