“I’m most passionate about the relationships I’ve built so far with the people at Fuqua. Taking the time to get to know my fellow teammates and classmates helped me understand that people come from all walks of life, yet we are all here together with a like-minded goal to grow professionally.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

Prior to completing my undergraduate degree, I felt that I wasn’t ready to work in my preferred career, project management. The MMS program course offerings as well as the potential job outlooks post-graduation definitely aligned with my career goals at the time. I also love to grow my professional network so naturally, Fuqua was also a great fit due to the large alumni network around the globe. At the end of the day, being a part of a prestigious program with people who have similar professional goals as myself is most important to me.

Before Fuqua

I had work experience in the retail and healthcare industry, in both customer-facing and administrative positions. These jobs have helped me develop my qualitative and quantitative skills.

After Fuqua

I would love to pursue a career in the project management industry, and my experiences at Fuqua will help me achieve this goal. In the Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum, I’ve also seen the parallels between project management and consulting and would also consider pursuing career paths into strategy consulting.

5 Things to Know About Durham

  1. Food! Head over to 9th Street and walk around the many restaurants—you’ll find something you enjoy.
  2. At the Durham Performing Arts Center you can see musicals and plays. Fuqua got tickets for a Broadway musical and it was great!
  3. E-scooters are a great way to get around town. If you don’t have a car, using scooters like Bird will get you to places with scenic views.
  4. There are many options for grocery shopping. I personally like to try different places for my essentials and found that Food Lion, Harris Teeter, and Whole Foods had great choices.
  5. Take the time to go on trails around Durham. I’ve done the Eno River and Occoneechee Mountain trails and enjoyed them a lot. Definitely go in October to see the colorful fall vibes—it’s beautiful.

MMS Outside of the Classroom

Going into MMS, I figured most of my time would be dedicated to classwork, but I was surprised to see that there was a plethora of different professional, diversity, and social clubs. I’ve joined the Fuqua Admission Ambassadors, Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum, Fuqua Volleyball Club, and General Management Club. Another reason I came to Fuqua was to explore opportunities outside of my professional goals, like consulting. The FCCP program is a great way for me to be in an experiential learning environment and learning the ins and outs of how to be a consultant for a company.
