“I am passionate about military veterans and the Duke Armed Forces Association here at Fuqua. I believe veterans contribute an immense amount of value to the Fuqua community. I plan to focus my time and energy to support the association and help active-duty and veteran students in their transition from the military to business school.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

As the father of two small children, I saw that Fuqua was a place that truly values the whole student, including their families. While visiting campus and attending Fuqua Friday, my wife and I walked into the Fox Center and were immediately sold when we saw the family room with all the little kids running around. To top it off, the kitchen staff had even set aside hotdogs and mac and cheese for the kids.

I also wanted a program that valued collaboration and teamwork, and the first-year team concept resonated with me and complimented my learning style. All of these things convinced me Fuqua was the right fit both for me and my family.

5 Random Things About Me

  1. The most difficult yet rewarding job I’ve ever had is being the father of two amazing children. If you were to ask them, Claire (5) and Noah (3) would tell you they are members of “Team Frazier,” a nickname my wife and I coined for our marriage on our wedding day.
  2. I’ve successfully tackled two standout NFL football players without breaking my neck, although I was extremely sore the following morning. In high school, I played on the same team as Akeem Jordan (Redskins/Chiefs/Eagles), and at the Virginia state championship game, we faced off (and won) against Ahmad Bradshaw (Colts/Giants).
  3. I’ve run the Marine Corps Marathon three times; in 2012, I ran the race while carrying a 48-pound rucksack to honor 48 of my brothers who were killed in action during my first combat deployment to Al Anbar Province, Iraq in 2005.
  4. Most people I meet would peg me for an extrovert; behind closed doors I’m an introvert.
  5. I sing “Edelweiss” to my son and daughter every night before tucking them into bed.

My Life Before Fuqua

I spent 10 years serving in the Marine Corps as both an enlisted combat engineer and a commissioned infantry officer, including multiple combat tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Horn of Africa. In 2012, I transitioned from active duty and began working for my family’s mining business, primarily in operations and human resources.

My Life After Fuqua

I plan to continue working in the mining industry after leaving Fuqua, preferably in an operations or strategy role with a national-level firm.

What I Love About Durham

Durham is a cool mid-size town with true authentic grit. I love that there are so many great family -friendly activities available, including The Museum of Life and Science, Duke Lemur Center, the American Tobacco Trail, Durham Bulls games, Eno River State Park, Defy Gravity Trampoline Park, Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh, and many more!
