“I’m a more confident leader than I was before starting the program. Fuqua has provided a safe space to speak up and offer my opinions without fear of judgment. This has allowed me to improve my presentation and public speaking skills, which were high on my list of competencies to improve during my MBA experience.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

My partner attended Fuqua a year before I started. During this time, I was living in Durham and interacting with other Fuqua students through Fuqua events and social activities. Even though I wasn’t yet a student, I felt like I was part of the Fuqua community, a community that is supportive, encouraging, and full of truly impressive individuals. Some of these students encouraged me to apply to Fuqua and were influential as I worked through the application process by providing valuable insights and advice. This support is a perfect example of the Team Fuqua culture, and I knew I wanted to experience it myself as a student.

Five Best Fuqua Activities

  1. Fuqua Friday – A Fuqua classic, Fuqua Friday provides a fun way for students to socialize with each other at the end of the week. Free food, free drinks, and fantastic people, what else could you ask for?
  2. FuquaVision – Our low-budget equivalent to Saturday Night Live (although definitely not filmed live), FuquaVision gives students something to laugh at and bond over.
  3. Spending the day at the U.S. National Whitewater Center – I love doing outdoor activities so being able to spend a day at the U.S. National Whitewater Center with my classmates was such a fun experience!
  4. Guest Speakers – Fuqua brings amazing guest speakers to campus so I try to attend as many as I can to absorb their knowledge and wisdom.
  5. Formal – Easily one of my favorite nights at Fuqua so far, formal was an absolute blast, and it was nice seeing all my classmates and friends dressed to the nines.

My Life Before Fuqua

I worked in financial services operations before attending Fuqua. My first role was in securities lending operations, where I was responsible for stock-loan recall management. I then worked on the treasury team for a global asset management firm. I was tasked with client cash management, including account reconciliation, wire and trade execution, forecasting, and reporting.

My Life After Fuqua

I hope to move to San Francisco and work in the Tech industry. Based on what I experienced during my internship, I know I can count on the communication, teamworking, accounting, and financial analysis skills I learned at Fuqua during my full-time role.

“The Fuqua network was incredibly helpful during my internship recruiting process, as I leaned on them to gain valuable insights about different industries, functions, and companies. Even after graduating, alumni share their valuable time with the community, and I hope to pay it forward to the next generation of students one day.”
