Why I Chose Fuqua

During the application process, I reached out to Fuqua alums, and all of them took the time to talk to me and offer advice; one of them even helped me throughout the rest of the application process. The more people I spoke to, the more convinced I was that Fuquans were kind people, and it was a place where I would fit in. It also became clear that Fuqua was a place where people developed their leadership skills more collaboratively and tried their best to make positive impacts.

5 Ways to Make Friends at Fuqua

  1. Join clubs. The professional, diversity, and activity clubs organize plenty of events where you can interact with new people.
  2. Visit local breweries. Durham has fantastic outdoor breweries where you can hang out and get to know your classmates better.
  3. Hang out in the Fox Center. Spending time here before classes, during lunch, and after class has been one of the best places to meet and get to know people better.
  4. Be intentional and reach out to people. Get out of your comfort zone and talk to people you don’t know. Introduce yourself; you will be surprised by how friendly everybody at Fuqua is.
  5. Go to Tavern Tuesday. Since there are no classes on Wednesdays, going for a drink on Tuesday nights has become a tradition at Fuqua. A great option to have some fun and meet new people. (Karaoke nights are even better!)

My Life Before Fuqua

I worked in corporate strategic planning and risk management for a multinational building materials company. I was in charge of leading COVID-19 crisis management and the early reactivation of the construction industry in 28 countries.

My Life After Fuqua

Over the summer, I interned at Boston Consulting Group. I plan to continue in general management consulting and apply both the soft and hard skills I have learned at Fuqua to help companies solve their most pressing challenges. Long-term, I plan to use those skills to support social impact initiatives.

Latin American Student Association

I spearheaded an initiative to reach out to all the Latin American prospective students and offer coffee chats with current students from their countries to share advice and create new connections.

Why Consulting?

Having the possibility of exploring a broad range of industries, functions, and types of projects is a unique opportunity only consulting offers. Additionally, the diversity of work and generalist model help generate an extensive skill-set that is easily transferable to any other career you choose to pursue in the future.
