"Fuqua forces you to hit the ground running, which requires a lot of team cohesion early on. That can be tough for seven strangers in a brand new environment, especially when you've just uprooted your entire life.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

I had originally narrowed my school list with three primary criteria: team-based, geography, and marketing programming. Fuqua met all of those criteria. I visited each school I was interested in, and I knew once I left Fuqua that I would be there the following year.

There was something incredibly special about the students; I was so compelled by the way they interacted with each other and me. Nothing felt transactional. Fuqua emanated this sense of community where people support and challenge each other. I believed this environment would extend to a strong network of professional connections too. I also appreciated the down-to-earth nature of the incredibly talented people I met. I just felt like I could be myself here.

5 Random Things About Me

  1. I spent a day as a traditional geisha in Kyoto, Japan.
  2. I am a first-generation college student.
  3. When I was a little kid, I wanted to be a professional WWE wrestler.
  4. I've been to Mardi Gras five times and caught a coveted Muses shoe every time!
  5. Since 1995, I’ve been an avid rollerblader.

My Life Before Fuqua

I spent three years teaching: two in New Orleans, LA as a Teach for America Corps Member and one in Seoul, South Korea. I then joined Teach for America's national staff and managed our recruitment efforts in the Southeast region.

My Life After Fuqua

I’ll be moving to Seattle, WA for a full-time product marketing role at Microsoft. I’m excited to launch my career at a company with so many opportunities to grow and develop as a marketer.

What I Love About Professor Mayew

I decided to enroll in Bill’s “Detecting Earnings Management” class after he presented his research about bias in the bond market toward Historically Black Colleges & Universities at orientation.

Bill was an enthusiastic speaker who made complex accounting concepts easy to understand. I felt I shouldn’t leave Fuqua without learning how to unpack a firm’s earnings statements. Now, I can attest that Bill is one of the most skilled instructors at Fuqua, managing his classroom like a coach manages a team. I'm constantly challenged to think critically about the content. Being in his class is like being on the basketball court.
