Having solely non-profit and government experience, I knew I wanted to go to a business school with a supportive, collaborative culture. I liked that Fuqua has a team-like culture, which prioritizes collaboration and teamwork. Each first-year student is assigned to a C-LEAD team—made up of five to six students. I don’t know where I’d be without my team. They quickly became like a family to me. No matter what came our way, we got through it together. Knowing that I had this group that I could turn to for anything gave me so much peace.
I served as a congressional aide to Speaker Nancy Pelosi. I managed a legislative portfolio that included health care and veteran’s issues, and drove constituent outreach initiatives. I also led logistics for parts of President Barack Obama’s inauguration and the visit of Pope Francis to the U.S. Capitol. I was then director of alumnae engagement at Duke Alumni Affairs. I managed women’s programming and alumnae student initiatives.
I’m seeking a career in brand management. In that role, I’ll apply the lessons I’ve learned in classes like consumer behavior, market research, and managing innovations. I’ll also tap into my Fuqua experiences influencing and managing teams.
Durham is known for delicious restaurants, local breweries, southern hospitality, progressive values, and tech startups. Being centrally located in North Carolina, Durham is a short two-to-three-hour drive from the beach and the mountains, and it's within driving distance of Washington DC, Charleston, Charlottesville, and Atlanta.
