Why I Chose Fuqua

The big data trend made me choose the MQM program, and Team Fuqua convinces me that it was the right choice. After 4 years in undergraduate business studies, I realized the limit of empirical business theory. I started to notice that more e-commerce companies like Alibaba, consulting firms like Deloitte, and countless hedge funds have exploited quantitative techniques to drive business value. I wanted to join this trend and become a data scientist with valuable business insights, so I chose Fuqua’s MQM program, as it provides training for both the technical skills and industry-specific knowledge.

During Fuqua

My team, Career Management Center advisors, and even Assistant Dean Jeremy Petranka, have always been by my side, supporting me and offering solutions to my problems either academically or career-wise. We definitely work as a team at Fuqua, no matter in school or outside the classroom.

After Fuqua

I hope to employ data analytics in a business context and transform cold, hard data into valuable business insights. I am especially interested in joining a data forensics firm to help corporate companies improve internal control, detect anomalies within their systems, and investigate fraudulent activities with data analytical tools.

My MQM Track

I am in the forensics track, learning how to use data analytics to detect fraud and manage risk. Some of our courses include Financial Reporting Foundations, Financial Statement Fraud, Managing Operational and Informational Risks, and Fraud Analytics.

From Financial Reporting Foundations, I have developed a better understanding of financial statements while pulling out hidden information from notes and charts. I hope to gain more insights in internal control, fraud prevention, and detection with quantitative techniques.
