Why I Chose Fuqua

I chose Fuqua for two main reasons. First, everyone I reached out to was so nice and helpful, and I thought this is the place where I want to spend the next two years. Second, I am passionate about the health care industry, and Fuqua’s Health Sector Management (HSM) is a powerhouse in this space, so I saw it as a perfect fit! In my previous career, I had the privilege of helping people every day. I am excited to embark on a career in health care to continue being able to do this.

I came to Fuqua with two primary goals: to successfully pivot careers and to learn as much as possible about the business world in my time here. I am happy to say I have accomplished both, and I'm surprised by how much fun it’s been! While there have been challenges along the way, overall, I've had a great time trying new places to eat, visiting new cities, and getting to know a lot of new people.

Currently, I am very passionate about Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA). I have continued being part of the ETA cohort, serving as the VP of career development for the ETA club.

Before Fuqua

I served as a firefighter for the city of Phoenix, AZ.

After Fuqua

I will be returning to DaVita in their Redwoods Leadership Development Program and am excited to apply all that I have learned as a Health Sector Management (HSM) student to this new journey.

5 Tips for Maximizing Your Time at Fuqua

  1. Don’t be afraid to recruit for new or not previously planned careers/industries. You might find an organization or industry that really speaks to you.
  2. Take all the classes you think will benefit you in the future. This is your time to learn, and the classroom can be a great way to challenge and push yourself on a new topic.
  3. Rely on your Consequential Leadership Team (C-LEAD)/classmates. You are fortunate to be around some incredibly brilliant people; it’s a great resource to tap into!
  4. Be intentional with your involvement. It’s easy to want to sign up for all the events and clubs, but I find my experiences are much better when I practice intentionality and focus on the things I care about most.
  5. Stay committed to your health and fitness. It can be something as easy as taking a walk every day. I am a believer in a healthy body, healthy mind approach to life.
