Mateo Martinez Ledesma
"Before Fuqua, I was focused on advancing my career. Over the past year, I’ve reconnected with my purpose through conversations with classmates, personal reflection, and mission-driven experiences. I now think more intentionally about the kind of leader I want to be and the impact I want to create beyond professional success. This shift—from career ambition to values-driven leadership—has been the most transformative part of my MBA journey."

Why I Chose Fuqua
I chose Fuqua because of the incredible people and the authentic, collaborative culture. From my very first interactions, I felt the strength of Team Fuqua—it wasn’t just talk; it was real. I also wanted to be part of something bigger than business school, and Fuqua’s connection to the broader Duke community was a major draw. The access to world-class faculty and the opportunity to learn from leading thinkers across disciplines excited me. Durham also offered the ideal environment for my family: vibrant, welcoming, and easy to navigate. Most importantly, Fuqua aligned with the kind of leader I aspire to be—one who values empathy, purpose, and collective success.
Before Fuqua
I worked as a product lead at Mercado Libre and Banco Galicia in Argentina. I focused on launching and scaling digital financial products that improved access and user experience for millions across Latin America. My responsibilities included defining product strategy, leading cross-functional teams, and driving growth through data-driven decision-making in highly dynamic environments.
After Fuqua
After graduation, I plan to continue in the Tech/FinTech industry, building innovative products that improve people's everyday lives. Fuqua has strengthened my strategic thinking, leadership, and data-driven decision-making skills, all of which I’ll apply to drive impact at scale. I’m especially excited to lead with empathy and purpose, the core of what I’ve learned here.

Relaxed Living, Real Adventures
I’ve really enjoyed living in Durham. The pace of life is refreshing, there’s no traffic, and everything is easy to access. It feels like a small town but still has everything you need—great food, parks, and a strong sense of community. I also love the access to the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking, running, or weekend trips, being so close to both the beach and the mountains has been a huge plus, especially for my family. It’s a great place to focus, recharge, and explore.
