Cornell Jordan
"Team Fuqua means interdependence. I genuinely believe we celebrate each other’s wins and support one another through the lows—but you have to commit to it. If you allow yourself to be known, you’ll find lifelong friends. I remember hearing alumni say, 'These are going to be some of the best years of your life.' And in the middle of studying for an accounting final, you wonder how that could possibly be. But it’s true. Despite the challenges, the friendships and memories you make along the way are absolutely priceless."

Why I Chose Fuqua
I chose to attend Fuqua because of the students I met. Everyone was genuinely friendly and went out of their way to help me through the process. That spirit left a lasting impression, and since then, I’ve paid it forward by speaking with numerous prospective students myself.
I knew the academic rigor would be top-notch, but what mattered most was finding a network of friends—not just colleagues. Diversity was also a key reason I chose Fuqua. I believe that solving the world’s greatest challenges requires multiple perspectives—and that starts with defining the problem correctly. Working with teammates from vastly different backgrounds gives you the chance to learn more than you ever imagined.
Before Fuqua
Prior to Fuqua, I worked as a relationship manager at a corporate training company, where I managed a portfolio of international clients and was responsible for $500,000 in annual revenue. I collaborated to build project teams and ensure successful delivery on client engagements.
After Fuqua
As a dual-degree student at the Sanford School of Public Policy, I plan to leverage my combined business and policy skills to work in renewable energy technology. Fuqua has equipped me with the confidence to contribute across any business unit—and to excel in the areas where I bring the most value.
5 Tips for Coming to Fuqua with a Partner or Family
-
Overcommunicate. Your partner may not fully understand what your day-to-day looks like or what you're thinking. Share as much of your journey with them as possible.
-
Make time for what you used to do together. Business school can be consuming, but it’s important to carve out time to do the things you enjoyed together before the program started.
-
Be transparent about your ambitions. If you’re considering recruiting for investment banking or another demanding path, talk about it. If you’re unsure how it’ll affect dinner routines or weekend plans, talk about that too.
-
Communicate with professors and teammates—early and often. If you were up all night with a sick child, send the email. People are willing to help, but only if they know what’s going on.
-
Set boundaries with work. Protect time for family. Block it off—no emails, no project talk, just family.
