Happy Birthday!
We asked the alumni below celebrating a birthday today, February 20, "Where are you now?" Here's what they said...
Tarang Amin ’87, MBA ‘91
I’ve been in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 17 years living in Piedmont, CA. My wife, Hirni, and I are happy that our son (28) and daughter (25) live nearby in San Francisco. I’m currently the CEO of e.l.f. Beauty (NYSE:ELF), a cosmetics and skin care company with a mission to make the best of beauty accessible to every eye, lip, and face. We would love to see anyone from the class of 1991 when you visit the Bay Area.
Katie Beck ’09, MBA ‘17
As of early January, I am currently taking advantage of Deloitte's generous family leave policy while my husband, Juan Danzilo MBA ’14, and I get to know our newborn, Julia. These first two months have been a wild ride so far, and we look forward to revisiting the concept of "sleep" sometime in the future.
John Gillespy ’77, MBA ‘87
I'm now a self-employed, regulatory consultant who helps small companies bring new medical devices to the U.S. market by handling their clearance through the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Beyond that, my wife and I reside in Palm Beach Gardens in South Florida where the grandchildren live. We support the Blue Devils when they travel to Miami for football or basketball games. The recent improbable Duke win over Carolina hearkened back to the equally incredulous loss to UNC in 1974 when the Tar Heels overcame an eight-point deficit in the final 17 seconds of regulation (and in the era before the three-point shot). I was a Duke freshman at the time. Back then, we stood in line a whole three hours to get into Cameron for a Carolina game.
Mary Ann Gough MBA ‘80
I am retired and living in Seattle.
Anshul Jain MMS ‘15
I’m currently in New Delhi, India, running a company that manufactures bath faucets and fixtures. My aim is to make a traditional Indian business competitive and sustainable in international markets while working on a totally environment-friendly and sustainable industrial production process.
Joe Kippels MBA ‘05
I’m currently living in Orinda, California, with my wonderful wife, Tiffany, and our two kids who are now 5 and 9. After spending close to a decade living in San Francisco, we moved to the East Bay to enjoy warm weather again. A current priority is getting my kids to become adequate skiers, which means trips to Tahoe are becoming more common. I continue to spend my work days focused on investments.
Xavier Marzan MBA ‘05
After being in the Fintech sector and having been part of two high-growth companies (Alibaba/Ant Financial investees) the last several years, I am now broadening my impact to the Philippines and Southeast Asia by starting a new corporate venture builder (part of the Filinvest group, one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines) that incubates and invests in various tech startups targeting several underserved sectors. I still currently live in Metro Manila with my wife and three kids.
Sasha Mentasti Shanley MBA ‘00
I have 9-year-old twins who are absolutely amazing. We live in Concord, MA, having made the move out of Boston a few years ago. I have been working at Fidelity Investments for almost 16 years and run their Digital Customer Service experiences. My son was diagnosed with bone marrow failure late last year and we are all focused on the long journey to getting him back to being a kid: caringbridge.org/visit/eamonshanley. We look forward to restarting our favorite activities: skiing, hiking, kayaking, and visiting National Parks.
Deep Rajagopal MBA ‘09
I am currently on planet earth, moving around the sun at 20 miles per second, and yet, completely stationary on Highway 101 traffic in California. I live in Mountain View, and my job is actually related to the “Silicon” in Silicon Valley. I work for Maxim Integrated, an analog semiconductor company. My business is focused on high-speed solutions for next generation datacenter fiber optic network requirements.
Matija Repolusk MBA ‘17
I am living between Jersey City, Munich, Vienna, and Ljubljana. I’ve been working for my own law firm consulting on international M&A in Central Europe serving international clients looking for investments in Europe. As a Global Executive MBA graduate, I'm happy to connect with any alumni that are interested in cooperation anywhere around the globe.
Stephen Seabolt MBA ‘06
I’ve been in Atlanta since the Fuqua days, and I now lead creative strategy at the American Cancer Society.
Steven Shorkey MBA ‘91
A few years after completing my Fuqua degree, I left investment banking for a few years to become (serially) the CFO of several different high-tech companies during the “dot com” era. Ultimately, I returned to investment banking via Wachovia Capital Markets which became Wells Fargo Securities, where I am a managing director in the high grade debt capital markets group.
Jue Wang Vermeulen Page MBA ‘05
I'm a managing partner at Page Automotive, which operates auto dealerships. I'm also the president and founder of Page Foundation, through which we support institutions like Duke and causes we believe in.
Jack Wyatt MMS ‘15
I’m in New York, having never returned to London full time. I work for a private investment fund, live in the West Village, and remain a proud Dukie.
