July 16, 2020

Dear all,

We will begin a “soft” Return to the Workplace next Monday.  “Soft re-opening” means we are still working out details of bringing our students back to campus, refining safety procedures, and awaiting news of availability of childcare/schools for working parents. There is a lot of information to convey at this time, but the most important pieces are included in the body of this email.

All members of our Fuqua community are responsible for the health and safety of ourselves, our Fuqua and Duke communities and the communities beyond our campus borders.  We must place our trust and confidence in one another to do what is right and good, even when it is difficult, uncomfortable or inconvenient.  As a condition of being on Duke’s campus, we require your commitment to do your part to keep our community safe and healthy.  These are among important principles included in the coming Duke Compact that President Price mentioned in a recent email. Beginning Monday, and going forward, we ask the following:

  • Always wear a face covering (unless you are in a private office with the door closed, or are eating/drinking)
  • Maintain physical distance
  • Wash hands often
  • Monitor and report symptoms daily with Duke’s Symptom Monitoring App (more info below)
  • Stay home if you feel ill
  • If designated, self-isolate for the required duration
  • Clean and sanitize personal space

Please note our facilities will remain secured with Fuqua-community-only access via DukeCard or Mobile DukeCard. Please do not hold the door for others. To ensure compliance and the safety of our community, door swipes and symptom-monitoring records will be cross-checked.

Duke-provided face coverings have arrived (3 per employee).  The BMO has bagged staff masks by department, and will have them available for pick up on Monday (or whenever convenient for the department). We were held to a detailed count of masks with employee names, so there are no extras.  As such, please secure the masks within departments and hand out packages as your staff members visit the workplace. Faculty masks will be held for individual pickup at the BMO (no rush; at faculty convenience).

The Duke symptom-monitoring app (SYMMON in Apple and Google stores) will be available for use on Monday. Duke’s OIT will pre-load basic registration information for each employee, and you will be required to login using your network credentials for the first use.  Again, every faculty and staff member (and students once they arrive) must complete this health self-assessment each day that he/she comes to campus (even for very short visits, and even for sporadic visits).

Other topics included in the attached document are:

  1. Facilities update (including BMO, Housekeeping, Parking and JB Duke Hotel)
  2. IT Equipment Policy and updates
  3. Bon Appétit and catering update
  4. Travel
  5. Meetings

As you know, the situation is fluid and new information may come at any time.  We will do our best to keep you informed and work diligently to ensure the safety and success of the Fuqua School community.

Best always,

Jill
