Reflections

I decided to pursue an MSQM in Health Analytics from Fuqua because I have always been interested in the business side of health care. I have a good foundation in the industry, but I wanted to strengthen my knowledge of business fundamentals while gaining an understanding of analytics. Nowadays, non-technical roles also require basic analytics knowledge, and I’m particularly interested in exploring how it can be applied in a health care setting. This program appealed to me because I thrive in team environments, and Fuqua’s strong emphasis on team culture aligns perfectly with my strengths. Overall, I wanted a high-quality program that focused on these aspects, and this program was the perfect fit.

Before Fuqua

I am currently a Revenue Cycle Analyst for a hospital. My role focuses on revenue integrity and charge reconciliation. I spend a lot of time in Epic monitoring work queues, amending charges—including building out new charge codes—and helping to categorize and code supplies.

After Fuqua

I started my current role during the first term of the program, and it has been amazing to witness firsthand the operations side of hospitals. I am slowly learning things in my program that are connecting to my job. The knowledge I will continue to gain throughout this program will help build my critical thinking and strategic skills further. I hope to eventually transition into health care consulting.

How a Health Analytics Degree Helps Navigate Industry Challenges

One of the biggest challenges in the health care industry is the vast amount of data that often goes underutilized. Despite having access to extensive information, transforming this data into actionable insights remains a significant hurdle. A Health Analytics degree equips me with the skills to approach this and other issues with a data-driven mindset. It enables me to interpret complex data, communicate findings effectively, and contribute to decisions that improve health care outcomes.
