Reflections
I chose Duke Fuqua’s MSQM: Business Analytics program for its focus on data-driven decision-making, which bridges my economics & law background with AI-era demands. Over 15 years in government, banking, and fintech, I witnessed China’s digital transformation fueled by blockchain, IoT, and AI. Traditional social science frameworks now fall short in addressing tech-driven challenges. The MSQM curriculum—with Python, R, SQL, and applied business integration—equips me to translate data into actionable strategies, which is crucial for becoming a data-fluent leader in fintech. Fuqua’s Team Fuqua ethos, small online cohorts and global peer collaboration, align with my need for cross-industry agility. The program’s alumni network and career services will accelerate my transition, while its flexible format lets me balance work (advancing legal compliance expertise) with mastering emerging tech-business trends. The Leadership Intensive session sharpened my ability to manage teams in AI-driven environments, merging analytical rigor with strategic vision—the core of modern business leadership.
Before Fuqua
I currently serve as Deputy General Manager of the Consumer Protection Department at Ant Group. Ant Group is China’s leading fintech company and the parent company of Alipay, serving over 1 billion users globally. My primary responsibilities include overseeing the implementation of comprehensive consumer protection policies; conducting compliance reviews and providing recommendations in the consumer credit and insurance sectors; facilitating communication with regulatory authorities, industry stakeholders, and academia; and conducting policy research on consumer protection affairs.
After Fuqua
After completing the MSQM degree, I do not intend to pursue a traditional data-focused career path, such as a business analyst or data scientist. Instead, I aspire to evolve into a senior executive who integrates expertise in economics, law, data-driven thinking, and leadership. I may further specialize in data jurisprudence through advanced legal studies, continue advancing within my current industry, or pursue strategic international opportunities that align with this interdisciplinary vision.
What Surprised Me Most about the MSQM: Business Analytics Program
What impressed me most was, first, the pedagogical integration of technology and business. Each term exposed us to technical training and business strategy, while applying technical methodologies in business courses and vice versa, stimulating actionable data-driven thinking. Second, the cohort's unparalleled diversity stood out—my peers hailed from multiple countries and regions with diverse professional trajectories. Their cross-cultural exposure enriched class discussions, fostering agile leadership mindsets through constant exposure to hybrid management philosophies. This interdisciplinary application of knowledge across borders redefined my understanding of innovation in globalized contexts.
