Happy Birthday!
We asked the alumni below, celebrating a birthday today, December 17, "Where are you now?" Here's what they said...
Arielle Band MBA ‘03
I’m currently in Bethesda, MD. Like many of us, I am looking out my window, trying to concentrate with a foster puppy in my lap and my daughter (attempting) to play her cello for her remote music class in the room next door. When I get a few minutes to focus, I’m designing new ways to help my clients connect and have meaningful conversations with their highest value prospects. And, I have to say, I’ve been pleasantly surprised that our proven techniques still work in the midst of all of this craziness, and we are adding a few new tricks to our toolkit! Wishing everyone health and many moments of joy with your families this holiday season!

We moved back to the Triangle from Washington, D.C., in 2014, when I took an investment role at Duke University's endowment (DUMAC). I have worked across the private and public portfolios and currently spend most of my time prospecting for new, emerging money managers in the public securities portfolio. Before the pandemic, I had regular annual travel to Asia and Europe, which provided a fascinating window into the ways that people think and invest in other parts of the world. We have loved raising our two children in the Triangle and have been impressed by how much Durham and Duke have transformed since business school. If you are in the area, please drop me a line.

My husband, Matt, and I settled 10 years ago north of Chicago in Wilmette, IL, with our three kids (Jake, Chase and Arden). Prior to that we lived in San Francisco, Arkansas, and Westport, CT. I spent most of my career in consumer package goods at J&J and Clorox but took time off since moving to Chicago area to raise our kids. I returned to work this past summer at a small specialty food company in Chicago leading marketing and sales. I must say, I am enjoying getting back to work during these crazy times.

After spending 2 years in Atlanta post-Fuqua, I am now living in NYC with my husband and 16-month-old daughter, Charli. Since leaving Fuqua I've spent my career in M&A Advisory at PwC, which has been full of exciting times, including taking a leave of absence to do a three-month sabbatical in Africa with my husband, and of course, taking time off to have my Charli! I just accepted a new position as a Director on the internal consulting team at Estee Lauder and am super excited about the next chapter!

I am currently working as the Chief Financial Officer for the American Counseling Association. I live in Alexandria, VA, with my wife, 7-year-old daughter, and 5-year-old son. Like the rest of the world, I've spent a lot of time at home in 2020, but the silver lining is it allowed me to have more time with my family than ever before. It's also allowed me to do a lot of reading I've wanted to do for years, and I've also gone golfing when I could to get out of the house.

I’m living in Chicago with my two French bulldogs, Paco and Lloyd. I’m a Principal with Bessemer Trust, running a talented team that advises our clients on investment management, wealth planning, and family office services. I moved here from our Atlanta office in the last quarter of 2019, so I’ve been working remotely for most of 2020. I look forward to being able to explore my new city and travel more once COVID settles down and the world gets back to normal.

Following a 3-year stint driving Product Management for Cisco Systems, I have recently decided to take the plunge into entrepreneurship to pursue a more fulfilling life mission. The challenges brought about by COVID, coupled with the persistent killing of Black men like myself in the U.S. in the midst of the pandemic, inspired me to focus my time and energy on my own community. So, what now? In the span of 90 days, I launched my first venture, iexperience.space. Through this digital transformation consulting firm and lifestyle brand, I aim to expand and share Black culture through storytelling, exploration, and healing. I am thrilled to jump all-in knowing that my physical, emotional, and spiritual alignment are fueling what is to come next! You can find me in Oakland, CA, with my divine partner Allison.

After my time at Fuqua and a subsequent PhD, I joined one of Germany’s “hidden champions.” Recently, I got promoted to Business Process Owner, meaning that I am creating and refining strategies, tools, processes, and workforce trainings for my employer’s Global Sourcing function. If you are interested in the latest trends in the construction industry, the future of procurement, or are based in Southern Germany, feel free to connect.

I've spent the last 3.5 years in Boston working for UnitedHealth Group. Currently, I direct member engagement marketing at UnitedHealthcare for our commercial business, leading member communication initiatives around COVID-19 testing, coverage, and vaccine availability; I also lead member engagement for our Specialty Benefits business (Vision, Dental, Financial Protection, and Hearing). It has been a fascinating year to be in this industry, and I'm incredibly grateful that my day job is comprised of such relevant and impactful work.
